Goal and Objectives Our goal is to provide a positive environment
for youth in which they will expand skills and explore career opportunities.
To meet this goal, the project addresses the following objectives:
Create a safe, positive learning environment
by offering inquiry-based,
hands-on
technology programs.
Encourage development of teamwork, communication,
problem solving
and leadership skills.
Raise awareness of career opportunities.
Enhance long-term academic
performance of youth by engaging them
in
activities that build upon skills and knowledgelearned
in school.
History of Summer Tech Camp
Recognizing the need for engaging educational activities outside school hours,
the NCESD launched a Summer Tech Camp in 2002. The camp provided twenty-one
5th grade students the opportunity to design, build, and program robots.
A major goal of the camp was to spark interest in science, mathematics
and technology through inquiry-based, hands-on learning. Using LEGO Dacta
building sets and laptop computers, students constructed robotic models
by utilizing creativity, design, logic, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
In 2004, sponsorships from Wenatchee businesses
allowed the NCESD to expand to include additional RoboCamps and an
Environmental
Science Camp. Our goal in 2004 is to continue Beginning and Advanced
RoboCamps, Environmental Science Camp, with the addition of a Forensics
Camp. Youth who participate in Summer Tech Camps increase awareness
of career opportunities while developing teamwork, communication,
problem solving, and leadership skills. 2003 Camp Descriptions>
