| Why Support Selected Models? |
| The H.323 suite of standards enable various vendor endpoints to
connect to one another and share audio and video. However, there
are several reasons for us to focus our staff training on selected
codecs. |
- WA-K20 has installed the Polycom MGC-100 Multipoint
Control Unit for bridging multiple codecs in a videoconference.
The MCU
can
connect
to
most brands of H.323 and H.320 codecs. However, features outside
the audio and video
standards used by Polycom codecs are also supported by the MCU.
The "People+Content" feature
of some of the Polycom codecs is an example.
- As software and
hardware upgrades are made available for the MCU, we must test
the upgrades to assure compatability with users' codecs.
Likewise, as updates become available for codecs, we need to
test them for compatability with the MCU.
- A vast majority of
H.323 codecs in use by our users are Polycom.
- We can not efficiently
train technical staff to support and troubleshoot problems on
every brand and every model. We maintain a collection
of Polycom codecs used for staff training and while troubleshooting
with you over the phone.
|
| Brands and models not on our list will be supported to the best
of our ability using our knowledge of H.323 and codecs in general. |
